Its never too late: Why C-Section Scar Massage Matters

I still remember the numbness. The tightness. That horrible Overhang no one tells you about.

After two C-sections — one emergency, one planned — I thought once the scar had “healed,” that was it. But months later, I still felt disconnected from my core, frustrated by the overhang, and weirdly distant from a part of my body that had brought my babies into the world.

No one had ever mentioned C-section scar massage. And the more I tired to find a solution or just someone who could actually help I just couldn’t find anything. I remember after my son I knew I needed to get back to my exercises but for some reason I felt that I needed to massage my scar, so I did, after my workouts I would touch and massage my scar but had no idea if I`m doing it right or not.

This led me to do more research, studying and finding my passion for helping women because I know how you feel.

If you’re reading this and thinking "I wish I’d known sooner" — please know, it’s not too late. Whether you’re 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years post-op, your scar and your body can still heal — fully, and beautifully.

So, what is C-section scar massage?

At Powellfit in Chelmsford, Essex, I offer C-section scar massage therapy to help mums release deep scar tissue, reduce discomfort, and reconnect with their bodies.

Scar massage involves gentle, hands-on techniques that work on and around your scar. It softens adhesions, boosts circulation and lymphatic drainage, and restores movement in the belly, core, and pelvis.

Why is it so important?

Because your scar isn’t just skin-deep. It can affect how you move, how your clothes fit, and even how you feel emotionally. Many of my clients come in struggling with:

  • Tightness or a “pulling” feeling in their lower belly

  • Lingering numbness or sensitivity

  • A stubborn overhang or “shelf” above the scar

  • Difficulty connecting with their core or pelvic floor

  • A sense of emotional disconnection or unresolved birth trauma

And they leave with more freedom, more connection, and often — tears of relief.

The emotional side of healing

For me, this wasn’t just physical. It was deeply emotional. Touching my scar — intentionally, gently, with purpose — helped me reclaim a part of myself I’d shut off. That’s something I now bring to every session I offer.

Scar massage can be incredibly grounding, helping you feel safe and strong in your body again — even if your scar is years old.

It’s never too late to start

One of the most common questions I get is:
“Is it too late to work on my scar?”
The answer is always no.

Even old scar tissue can release. Even long-standing numbness can improve. And even if you’ve lived with discomfort or detachment for years, change is still possible.
